Shut the front door! They’re straws! SanSik Hong explains that the sculptures juxtapose power and desire, with the weak properties of the straw. But I wonder if there’s also room to look at the idea of sensuality and desire inherent in both the sculpture and the material. While straws are seemingly non-sensual, everyday objects, when you stop to think about imagery associated with straws and the fact that only the most desirable beverages use them, there might be an argument to be made.
